Three milestones, one web part. New hires, work anniversaries and promotions all celebrated on your intranet homepage. Pulls automatically from Entra ID so the moments happen without anyone having to remember, with manual overrides when you need them.
The Problem
New starters arrive and nobody knows who they are. Ten-year service milestones pass without a mention. Promotions get announced in a team Slack that half the business doesn't see. The moments that should build culture - welcoming someone, celebrating loyalty, acknowledging progression - quietly disappear because nobody owns the job of surfacing them.
The Solution
People Spotlight surfaces new hires, work anniversaries and promotions automatically on the intranet homepage. Most of the data comes from Entra ID (hire dates are already there), so new starters appear on their first day without anyone having to lift a finger. For promotions, or when Entra ID is incomplete, HR can add or override entries through a SharePoint list. Milestones get celebrated because the system notices them.
Three in One
Each category can be shown alone or combined into a single feed. Configure independently per page.
Photo, name, job title, department, start date. Auto-published from Entra ID the day they join.
1-year, 5-year, 10-year and beyond. Highlighted automatically on each anniversary date.
Name, new role, effective date. Added by HR through a simple SharePoint list entry.

Milestones that happen on their own, with HR in control when it matters.
Automatic From Entra ID
New hires and work anniversaries pull straight from Entra ID using hire dates. Photo, job title and department populate themselves. No manual list to maintain.
Manual Overrides Where Needed
Promotions go in a SharePoint list (not always captured in Entra ID). HR can also add a custom welcome note to a new hire, override a start date, or exclude someone on request.
Three Views in One Web Part
Show all three categories combined, or configure separate instances for a dedicated "New Starters" section and a separate "Anniversaries" feed.
Configurable Anniversary Milestones
Choose which years to celebrate - every anniversary, only round numbers (1, 5, 10, 15), or your own custom thresholds. Set what's meaningful at your company.
Visibility Windows
New hires stay visible for a configurable period (e.g. first 30 days). Anniversaries appear on the day and stay for a few days. No clutter, no stale cards.
Theme-Aware and Responsive
Inherits your site theme, adapts to any screen size. Works on desktop, mobile and Teams tabs - so the celebration reaches everyone wherever they work.

HR can override it through the SharePoint list. The web part uses the override value in preference to Entra ID where one exists. In practice, most customers find this drives a helpful tidy-up of Entra ID data that was never properly maintained.
Yes. Exclusions are managed through the SharePoint list - add a user, they don't appear. Useful for senior leadership, for personal reasons, or for staff on sensitive assignments. The exclusion is permanent unless HR removes it.
Through the SharePoint list. HR adds a row with the employee, new role and effective date. If your HR system can export to a list automatically (via Power Automate or a simple connector), we can wire that up as part of a retained support engagement so promotions flow in without manual entry.
Your call. Common patterns: every year for small companies (it's personal); 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 for larger companies (it stays meaningful); or celebrate from year 5 onwards. The web part is configurable - change it any time your culture shifts.
Yes. Show all three together in a unified feed, or deploy three separate instances - one for new hires, one for anniversaries, one for promotions. Many customers run a combined feed on the homepage and dedicated feeds on the HR site.
Yes. When a SharePoint page is embedded as a tab in Teams, People Spotlight renders correctly. Field-based staff on mobile Teams see new hires and milestones the same as desktop users.
