Migrations we do

Wherever your files are now

The five migrations we deliver most often. Each one starts with an audit, so only what you need makes the move.

Talk to us →
01Our most common migration
File server→SharePoint Online

File server to SharePoint

The most common move we make. Years of nested folders, duplicates and unclear ownership, turned into sites and libraries that search can actually find.

  • Content audit: active, archive or delete
  • Deep folders replaced with libraries and metadata
  • NTFS permissions mapped to SharePoint groups
  • Mapped drives retired without disruption
  • Department-by-department or all at once
  • Training on where things live now

02
SharePoint on-premises→SharePoint Online

SharePoint Server to Online

Move from SharePoint 2013, 2016 or 2019 to the cloud - and modernise classic sites on the way.

  • Classic sites rebuilt as modern pages
  • Custom solutions reviewed and replaced
  • Nintex and K2 workflows assessed

03
SharePoint Online→SharePoint Online

Tenant to tenant

For mergers, acquisitions, divestments and rebrands - or tidying one messy tenant into a clean one.

  • Sites, libraries and versions moved
  • Users and permissions remapped
  • Coordinated with Teams and OneDrive

04
Dropbox→SharePoint Online

Dropbox to SharePoint

Bring shared folders into Microsoft 365, so files live alongside Teams, Outlook and your intranet.

  • Team and personal folders separated
  • Shared links replaced with SharePoint sharing
  • Version history carried across where possible

05
Box→SharePoint Online

Box to SharePoint

Consolidate on Microsoft 365 and stop paying for two storage platforms.

  • Box folders mapped to sites and libraries
  • Collaborator access mapped to groups
  • Box Notes and metadata handled

Where migrations are won or lost

Moving files is the easy part. Deciding what moves, where it lives and how people work afterwards is where we spend our time.

01

Honest content audit

We find what’s active, what should be archived and what can go - so you don’t move ten years of clutter into a new home.

02

Target structure first

Sites, hubs, libraries and metadata designed before anything moves, keeping it as simple as governance allows.

03

Permissions reset

Leavers, old exceptions and inherited access cleaned up, and access aligned to roles instead.

04

Transform, not just transfer

Manual processes, forms and old Nintex or K2 workflows redesigned where the old way no longer fits.

05

Built around users

Department leads involved early, and training based on real daily tasks - not a generic tour.

06

Governance from day one

Clear ownership, naming and site-creation rules, so the new environment doesn’t drift back into the old one.

Choosing a cutover

Phased or all at once?

There’s no single right answer. We’ll recommend one based on how your teams work, your timings and how much testing is needed.

Phased

Department by department

Less disruption at any one time
Lessons from each phase shape the next
Suits mixed content quality
Teams may work across old and new for a while

All at once

One planned weekend move

Short transition, one clear switchover
No running two systems side by side
Simple message for staff
Needs thorough piloting beforehand
We plan around year-end, audits, big client projects and holidays - not just technical readiness.

Questions

SharePoint migration FAQs

Will people lose access during the migration?

No. Content is copied in the background, and the switchover is planned so people move from the old location to the new one with no downtime.

Do we have to move everything?

No, and we’d usually advise against it. The audit shows what’s active, what should be archived and what can be deleted - often a large share of old file servers doesn’t need to move.

What happens to our folder permissions?

We map them to SharePoint groups based on roles, removing leavers and one-off exceptions. It’s the right moment to fix access that nobody fully understands.

Is version history kept?

For SharePoint to SharePoint moves, yes. From file servers, Dropbox and Box we carry across what each platform allows, and agree it with you up front.

How long does a migration take?

Smaller moves can finish in a few weeks. Larger or phased migrations run over a couple of months. You’ll have a timeline in your proposal.

What about our old workflows?

We review Nintex, K2 and SharePoint Designer workflows and recommend what to migrate, rebuild in Power Automate or retire.
