Questions About Employee Directory

Where does the data come from?

Entra ID (Microsoft's identity directory, formerly Azure AD). Every Microsoft 365 tenant has it. Whatever is in there - names, job titles, departments, manager relationships, photos - appears in the directory automatically.

What if our Entra ID data is incomplete or messy?

The directory is only as good as your Entra ID data. If photos are missing or job titles are wrong, that shows up. But because it's live data, once HR or IT cleans it up the directory updates automatically. Many customers find this creates useful pressure to maintain clean identity data.

Can we hide certain users or groups?

Yes. Exclude by security group, department or user type. Common uses: hide service accounts, hide external contractors from general staff, or restrict the directory to a single business unit.

Does it work in Microsoft Teams?

Yes. When your SharePoint page is embedded as a tab in Teams, the directory renders correctly and respects the signed-in user's permissions. Contact card links also open Teams chats directly.

What about GDPR and data protection?

The directory displays data that is already in your Entra ID and visible to authenticated employees via Outlook, Teams and the Microsoft 365 apps. It doesn't store anything outside your tenant or expose data to external parties. Security documentation is available for your IT governance review.
